The University of Arkansas Rich Mountain Medical Sciences Center serves as a new landmark for the Mena campus. Situated at a prominent corner, the facility acts as a welcoming "front door," greeting students and visitors while establishing a clear visual identity for the university’s allied health programs.

Designed in Context A primary goal of the project was to ensure the new center felt like a natural extension of the campus. The design utilizes a material palette carefully selected to complement the existing University of Arkansas buildings, balancing modern aesthetics with the established architectural character of the surroundings. This approach allows the building to stand out as a contemporary hub while maintaining a seamless connection to its environment.

Clinical Precision & Student Wellness The interior is divided between high-performance clinical spaces and dedicated wellness areas. To support the university’s expanding healthcare curriculum, the facility includes:

- High-Fidelity Simulation: Medical gas-ready labs and skills rooms that replicate real-world hospital and emergency environments.

- Specialized Training Suites: Custom-designed spaces for Nursing, EMT/Paramedic, and Therapy programs.

- Modular Learning: Flexible classrooms and faculty offices equipped with advanced AV technology to support evolving teaching methods.

Recognizing the demanding nature of medical training, the program also features a full-scale fitness center. This space provides students and faculty with an on-site resource for physical health, ensuring the building supports both professional development and personal well-being.

Built for Flexibility Every element of the Medical Sciences Center was chosen for long-term adaptability. From the modular interior layout to the high-efficiency systems and healthcare-grade finishes, the design is engineered to grow alongside the university. The result is a highly functional, flexible facility that strengthens the university’s role in regional workforce development and provides a professional home for the next generation of healthcare providers.
